Hatch Navy Record Tote

A thoroughly enjoyable expedition to seek and find vinyl treasures requires the right gear. A tote large enough to comfortably fit a selection of records is mandatory, and this tote has room to accommodate more than one boxed set, should the luck of the hunt be in your favor.

The graphic elements and type used in the creation of the tote bag design came directly from the typecases of wood and metal type, and the magical wall o’wonder in the print shop. This does indeed include one 45 record, mounted to the correct block height for even printing. The blocks with extra texture included here are actually wood type that’s been flipped onto its face in the printing press, so the saw marks that are a result of the process of making the type can lend just the right grooviness to the overall design.

Before the digital art files can be created for the screen-printing process completed by our partners in spilling ink, each element is carefully printed on one of our Vandercook letterpress printing presses, to maintain the integrity of weathering nearly century and a half of work our type and some of these printing blocks have endured. It is the texture of something well-used that we don’t want to smooth away.

Like our printing blocks of type and images, these totes are sturdy and meant to work. They’re outfitted with thick canvas, flat bottoms and long handles.
