Uncle Dave Macon Poster

Uncle Dave Macon (nicknamed "The Dixie Dewdrop") was 68 years old and the biggest star on the Grand Ole Opry when he appeared at the schoolhouse in Temperance Hall, Tennessee, reprinted here from the original  poster design used to advertise the 1938 date.

A photograph of Uncle Dave seated, banjo UNDER his knee, would have made him immediately recognizable to his fans, and this poster layout, printed in black and red with no overlapping between the colors, became a popular way to design the posters as the country music artists—and by extension, the shop—got busier and busier in the late 1940s and through the 1960s.

As with many historic show posters, the accompanying acts are often as illuminating as the headliner. Backing the irrepressible Uncle Dave were young whippersnappers Sam and Kirk McGee from Franklin, Tennessee, who one day would be grand old timers of the Opry themselves.
