Flatt & Scruggs Red/Blue New River Ranch Poster

A captivating poster designed in 1954 for the most popular act in bluegrass music at the time, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Hatch had originally printed this Flatt and Scruggs poster to promote their 1954 appearance at Maryland's New River Ranch, a country music park that hosted many touring acts in that era. Scruggs propelled the band with his high-revving banjo, while Flatt steered it with his high but oh-so-smooth vocals.

The 1950s-style cartooning on this poster, along with images of popular products from sponsor Martha White Flour add quite a bit of visual flair to the poster, balancing the strong use of red and the vibrant photo of the duo, while also capturing their connection to the longtime sponsor.

A jingle for Martha White Flour, written by Nashville songwriter Pat Twitty in 1953, was first performed from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry by Flatt and Scruggs, and Martha White is still a sponsor of the show today!
