Johnny Cash Show Poster
This classic show poster features a full-length photo of Johnny Cash in his all-black attire that over the years has become an unforgettable image of the country music icon.
While not married quite yet to June Carter, when the Fabulous Johnny Cash Show rolled into Minneapolis on April 22, 1967, Cash's star-studded supporting cast for the show included his future wife, Mother Maybelle and the Carter Family, the Statler Brothers, and Carl Perkins.
With such a packed line up, most of it had to be typeset using metal type, which typically runs in the smaller heights in a poster shop such as Hatch Show Print. The beautiful red ink used for the majority of the show information provides the perfect counterbalance to the photoplate of Cash, which of course had to be printed in black.
Though he is immediately recognizable in this restrike, or historic reprint, Johnny Cash had actually started appearing on poster advertisements produced by Hatch Show Print in the mid-1950s, before he was aided by Manuel Cuevas and transformed into the Man in Black.
