Good Work Isn't Cheap Poster
This sentiment is a classic. It is a reminder that the effort one can put into something is directly related to what one gets out of it.
The tools of our labor-intensive process here in the shop lent themselves nicely to creating the full effect of this print. Letterpress printing requires an unflagging attention to detail, from design to final trim.
Once there is an approved design to print, the design has been re-typeset by the color of ink that will be used to print that layer, the ink mixed and the paper cut, it is time to make ready on the press. We slip pieces of paper (sometimes as thin as tissue paper) underneath each letter to make sure it is printing as best it can.
To demonstrate the “cheep” work, the printer did not spend any time making sure the printing quality of the type on half of the print met our usual standards, and it shows!
